Adult gastroenterology

Gastroenterology is the medical specialty that deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the digestive system disorders (esophagus, stomach, duodenum, small intestine, colon, liver, gallbladder, pancreas). Digestive disorders can be accurately diagnosed through modern investigation means, from specific blood tests and functional digestive tests to ultrasound and endoscopic investigations. Gastroenterology treatments focus on rehabilitating and maintaining the function of the affected organ, through diet and medication as well as by altering certain root-cause factors (smoking, alcohol consumption, stress).
